wrote Norman Cousins after he had recovered from a' "terminal" illness.
We know that medicine, diagnosis by professionals and
treatment are vital, and extremely important aspects of becoming well again.
But medical science is very often ignorant of reasons why some
people heal and others succumb to disease.
The healing process is still a very much of a mystery.
We are certain however, that each person has more direct control over his or
her healing than has ever been acknowledged before.
Knowing how to go about this is to follow steps in order to make
you aware of your own inner power
and your own ability to help yourself heal.
Practicing acceptance of your illness which does not mean resigning yourself
to it and admitting defeat.
Defeat leads to depression and that frame of mind
will not allow you to focus and create a positive force within yourself
to allow you to start to heal.
Accepting means to prepare a cradle for yourself,
a healing, gentle and loving place where you can free your energy
from negative thoughts and deeds, and allow your mind to soar on
other thoughts and parts of your life, even while you are sick.
If you look at your illness as a loss, a loss of your former self,
you are giving in to it instead of allowing yourself room for new
growth and development.
Having the courage to open your mind to ALL possibilities
and knowing that you can achieve your purpose is what will keep you
on the tracks to wellness.
If you look at your illness, your pain and your suffering from
another perspective, and think of it as a means to a different route in your life,
then it can be a painful yes, but positive influence in your life.
Certainly medicine, professional diagnosis and treatment are important,
and sometimes vital, aspects of becoming well.
But medical science still remains ignorant as to precisely why some
people heal and others succumb to disease.
Indeed, the healing process itself remains a mysterious process.
We do know however, that the individual person has a lot
more power and control over his or her own healing than was ever acknowledged
before. Here are some "hints" which might help you realize your own power
and ability to help you heal.
Our human nervous systems are complex and when we heal,
we grow new tissue, new nerves, and new cells.
In knowing this, it is mandatory that we follow this though mindfully
by creating new ideas, new attitudes, new ways of looking at ourselves
and the world, our loves, our families and our world, while we are healing physically.
If we start to grow psychologically in response to our illness,
we may not need to go through the trauma of suffering
through a physical illness in order to evolve or grow.
So if we sit quietly and think of our illness as our body's valiant struggle
to redirect our lives in a more positive direction, then to avoid judging our
illnesses harshly or ourselves for "having it" as we so often do,
then the main objective is clear.
AVOID Judging altogether.
Visualize your illness within your body and transmit your love
and caring to it's ailing center.
Your body is trying to be well as courageously as it can.
It has powerful tools at its disposal in its biochemical,
cellular and nervous repertoire to regain its healthful balance.
Your body knows the pattern of wellness
but it needs encouragement and support from the depth of the real YOU.
If you are peaceful and sure of your ability to heal yourself,
then you illness will just become a redirection in your life.
Someone once said,
"Illness is God's way of getting your attention!"
Pay attention to and appreciate that message and
allow it to redirect your life.
This is sometimes hard to rationalize because in the
depths of our depression and pain,
it is almost inconceivable to us that God would get our attention in this manner.
However, if you really think about it, it is an unselfish act of love and devotion,
for God does not want his children to suffer.
To understand that death is not a disease, it is not a failure and it is
not the end of everything.
We cannot escape this adventure as much as many
of us would wish to.
If staying alive is our only goal in life, we will certainly fail.
One way to understand this is to accept the inevitability of your own death.
And to know that we only have a little time to experience being alive
on this planet and that we might as well enjoy every
single precious moment of this day-to-day
experience as best as we can,
including our pain and our illness.
Avoid making physical wholeness your goal.
Nobody in this world has a perfectly tuned and functioning body.
Our body functioning varies from day to day,
from task to task from variable to variable.
Lots of people heal into peace of mind and self love
without ever becoming well again.
But they, in making their goal one of inner peace,
have promoted your own natural ability to forgive and love yourself
And that this just might promote healing a lot faster than self-hate,
self-criticism, resentment, depression and lack of joy of life.
If we can learn to use our pain and illness as a situation to learn about
hope, faith, love, acceptance, forgiveness, and openness to life and
adhere to the MOMENT, then we may have the
ability and magic to force our disease into remission.
THINK ABOUT THE POSSIBILITIES
Our bodies will respond to self-love and respect and love sent to us by others.
If you send your own body loving messages,
and you are open to receiving love from others,
your body's immune system will immediately reopen with a
positive answer and start working and fighting for life
with all the power and energy it can muster.
Negative thoughts, we all know,
produce chemicals in our bodies and
Positive thoughts produce another set.
Positive Reinforcement strengthens the immune system
while negativity weakens it.
Use your body and the life force in your body to love.
Loving is the single path to immortality.
Your love lies on forever after you physically die.
If you spend most of your life hating, then you in turn spend most of it dying.
If you spend it loving, you leave a legacy of love and development for
all those people you touched with your gracious love.
A legacy and gift of love is the most wonderful gift
you can offer future generations.
Think of spending most of your moments loving and realize
that you will spend a few brief moments dying.

An important way to build up our immune systems is through
healing thoughts and prayers.
So with every thought of health and healing,
we send a message of life to our immune systems and
we encourage ourselves to maintaining a positive attitude.
Our prayers are a sacred activity that strengthens our faith
and rejuvenates us physically, mentally and spiritually.
Entering into a silent personal meditation,
we picture ourselves as being healthy and whole
and being one who is constantly enfolded in God's loving arms.
God guides us and supports us as we maintain a healthy a balance
of prayer, rest and nutrition, and exercise.
Rest revitalizes our mind, nutrition rejuvenates our bodies,
Exercises strengthen our resolve, and
Prayer & Meditation centers us in the presence of God.
You are in the Palm of God's Hand
