ROYAL GENEALOGY

These pages contain some of the royal persons and noble families that we descend from. Names in all upper case are ancestral, but I do not say what level of Grandparent anyone is to me. It might be said that if I were to get a nose bleed or cut myself shaving, I'd lose all my royal or noble blood.
While I do not intend this as a history lesson, a few comments are in order. There is no Heraldry here; there's no such thing as a ‘family crest'. The shields that are part of coats of arms were granted originally to one man, who may or may not have been allowed to pass it to a son. I know of one instance personally where a man applied for and was granted Arms of his own design, so they are still granted. However, just because your name is the same as an old noble family, does not give you the right to use the crest or shield of their arms!
When doing our genealogy research, we should not intentionally look for ‘royal' connections. I came upon mine doing what we all do...going back to the previous generation, one after the other, in a particular line. In fact, I have tried disproving that first link, to no avail. So, if you have links to nobility of the past, you will find it eventually. It's said there are millions of descendants around the world of Edward III of England. Remember too, that if you find royal links, it won't get you invited for tea at the palace!
Searching your royal roots will remind you that Kings became such by conquest. Those who claimed the title by birthright had an Ancestor somewhere who gained the throne by conquest. You will also find that noble families were, to a degree, dysfunctional; just as any ordinary family might be. There are cases for instance of Uncles marrying their own Nieces!
The data in this royal database is only about half of that found; but is sourced. Royals and nobility of the past are fairly well documented, some more so than others.
Sources for this kind of search are many; from encyclopedias like Brittanica to the Official website of the British Monarchy or Genuki, Kings & Queens of England and Scotland as well as Burke's Peerage. There are a vast number of royal genealogy sites online, most of them quite good.
So, have fun and enjoy your look into the past at Knights, Barons, Dukes and Earls with their Kings, Queens and assorted others!
