Fall Sports Spectacular 2002 Letter

From: Lisa Gehman
This year the school has asked the cheerleaders to organize a community pep
rally to introduce all of the fall sports teams. The goal of the event is to
increase the spirit in our school and community. We want to show case all of the
fall sports teams and the band.

The CV Cheerleaders are hosting a Fall Sports Spectacular on
Thursday, August 29 at 7 pm in the football stadium to kick off the 2002-2003
school year. The fall sports teams, band, families and community members are
invited to help raise the school spirit. The teams included are football,
soccer, cross country, golf, tennis, field hockey, band, and of
course VOLLEYBALL. All teams, midget through varsity, are invited to attend this
event.

The Evening will start with a dinner, catered by the Outback. The buffet will
include steak, chicken, salad, vegetables, and dessert. Tickets are available
through the athletic director's office from 8:30-11:30 and 12:00-3:00 from
August 5-9 and August 12-15, and from 6-6:30 pm on August 14. The price is $15
per person. Tickets are limited, so your team and their families will want to get theirs early.

The Sports Spectacular will begin with the band and cheerleaders entertaining the
crowd from 6:45-7:00. At 7:00, the Buckskin band will perform their half-time show
for the first time this season. Next, the fall sports teams will be introduced,
with the captains saying a few words. the night will end with the band playing
the fight song and a fabulous display of fireworks (weather permitting).

There will be tables available for displaying information about your sport. We
strongly encourage you to make a tri-fold display, highlighting the accomplishments
of the VOLLEYBALL TEAM. No fundraising is allowed at this event. If you are
plainning on making a display, let me know and I will arrange for a table.

Come out for a great dinner and a fun-filled spirit night at the Conestoga
Valley High School footbal stadium. Bring your families and school spirit!

We look forward to seeing the volleyball team at this event!

The meeting was called to order by President Steve Fetrow. Steve then asked for
volunteers to fill the vacated positions:

Discussions were held concerning the post-game serving contest. Questions were raised whether
we wanted to continue with the contest. All agreed it was a good fundraiser but that we need
to make it more orderly and encourage the players to help when they can.

Steve then discussed the "list of requests" that was presented for the school to budget for our program. The list included a "Hitmaster", Sleeves for the gym floor (that would allow for another net), improved lighting, balls, uniforms. Questions were raised by parents if we should do more fund raising in addition to a tournament that was held in the spring. Ideas were brought forth about about possible merchandise that we could sell much like the football team does at home games. Some suggestions for merchandise were License plates with a custom logo and possibly shirts. Steve explained that all the money that the Booster Club raises goes back to the girls in the form of jerseys, gifts, banquet, senior awards, equipment. Parents expressed their desire that our club "look like winners" when we enter higher play by perhaps purchasing warm-ups or jackets. The discussion was tabled for now with Mr. Mable presenting some ideas for merchandise @ a later date.

Steve then introduced the coaches.

Melissa Nixon spoke about last year's undefeated season and the hopes for her girls this year to learn the basics and continue the CV wining streak.

Coach Al explained that volleyball is one of the best opportunities for scholarships at the D2 level. He explained about his vast experience in coaching all levels of the game and that the parents should be encouraged to cheer for the team. Al mentioned how far Kim Glass has come in four years and that no east coast player has ever been this highly recruited. There is a history section on the web page to check out past accomplishments.

Steve closed the meeting by reminding parents that if they have problem with the coaches to go to the Athletic Director ASAP so issue can be addressed. Possible other meeting may need scheduled to discuss tabled issues.
