rules were in effect to start the season (Best 3 out of 5 matches (Varsity), 2 out of 3 (JV), Net serves,
Rally point scoring, games to 25). CV cruised in this non-league match as they controlled the tempo of the match
CV travels to Cocalico for their first league match on Tuesday.

CV Boys continued their road trip with the long trip to LMHS. CV had to fight back
in the first game, coming from an 22-18 deficit, to run off 6 straight points to take a 24-22 lead
and then hanging on to win at 25-23. In the final 2 games, CV established a 2 or 3 point lead and
maintained that small lead to post two 25-21 wins. Ryan Sweitzer had a season high 21 kills in the match.

JV dropped their second match in a row, losing in two to the Blazers.

CV Boys traveled to Cocalico to open the 2004 Section II season. CV came out strong in
first to games tallying quick wins. The Bucks got out of sync in the 3rd game never really getting into the
flow of the game. The fourth game started slow, but as the Bucks returned to their agressive play, they
closed out their first section two match of the year.

JV experienced their first losses of the year as they dropped a two game match to the Eagles.

Wilson Tournament - Away

The Boys Varsity team traveled to Wilson High School on Saturday to take part in the annual Wilson
Tournament. CV finished pool play at 7-1, defeating Antietam, Council Rock and Oley Valley before splitting with
Gov Mifflin. Garden Spot was defeated in a one game quarter final match which then pitted CV against Pennsbury in the
semi finals. Pennsbury ended CV's day by winning the match 2-0. CV finished 3rd in the tournament with an 8-3 record for
the day. Scores are listed on the results page.

The Elizabethtown Boys volleyball came to CV on Tuesday defending their 2-0 league start. Etown hustled
on defense and kept the game close before squeaking out a first game victory by 2 pts. CV answered back in
in the next two games, controlling the tempo of the games. A let down in the fourth game, allowed Etown to
play right with CV and netting a 27-25 win for the Bears, forcing a 15 point 5th game. The Bucks blew out
Etown in the final game by only allowing 3 points to be scored. Bucks improved to a 3-0 league record, taking
sole possession of first place and knocking Etown to second place.

The Boys Varsity team participated in the Lake Lehman Tournament. In the first round of single game
matches, CV lost to Souderton, defeated St. Josephs, and then lost to Emmaus. The second round found CV splitting a match
with St Joseph, defeating Exeter and Plum in two games. CV defeated Souderton in a single game Quarter final match.
Cv faced Hempfield in the semi-finals, where they lost in two games. Scores are listed on the results page.

In a non-league contest, the Mounts of Ephrata were hosted by the CV Bucks. The match was won by CV in three
quick games as never 'mounted' a serious threat to the Bucks.

The JV squad was forced to a rubber match game after winning the first and dropping the second game of the match.
JV placed their 3rd "W" of the year in the Win Column by winning the 3rd game.

Cocalico Tournament - Away
Saturday, April 17, 2004


The Boys Varsity team took charge of their pool on Saturday,
Finishing their pool with an 8-0 record. Defeating all teams 2-0, CV put away
Twin Valley to start the tournament. Schuylkill Valley and Cedar Crest also fell
2-0. Brandywine had a very young team which afforded the chance to change up the
line up. Travis Armstrong got his first shot playing varsity and contributed 2 kills
on 3 attacks. Shaun Reed also made his debut in the second game, getting his first
varsity back row play.

the finals. Winning the first game, CV controlled the second game and had a 24-21 lead
before losing some composure and allowing Cocalico to score 5 straight points to win
26-24. In the final match, Cocalico hung in again with CV and eked out a 25-23 victory,
claiming the crown and handing 2nd place to CV.

Cocalico now has the honor of coming to take on CV in our house at Rill Gym on Thursday
evening. Come on out to watch the Bucks continue on their quest for the Section 2 Crown.

Week #4


Despite the loss to Cocalico in the finals at the Cocalico Tournament, CV Bucks only dropped
one position to #16, in the PA VB Coaches Poll. Remaining in the top spots of the poll were:

1. Hempfield (D3), 2. Central Catholic (D7), 3. Wilson (D3). Pennsbury (D1) moved up 7 spots to the #4 position
while N. Allegeny (D7) dropped to 5th. Lake Lehman made the biggest move upward, moving from 18th to
9th, while Penn Hills (D7) had the largest drop, dropping from 8th to 17th.

The Varsity team needed 5 games on Thursday to keep their Section II record perfect. After coasting
in the first game, it looked like the Bucks would avenge the finals loss at Cocalico on Saturday.
Leading 13-11 in the second game, Ryan Sweitzer came down on a Cocalico player that had come under
the net, causing Ryan to leave the match with a rolled ankle. CV lost the next two games, putting
themselves in a must win situation. Winning the fourth and forcing a 15 point 5th game, CV battled
the Eagles, pulling out a 16-14 fifth game.

The JVs made good on their pre-game prediction of sweeping the Eagles, by controlling both games with
their serving game, dishing out 12 aces in the match.

If you missed this match, you missed a marathon of volleyball. LMHS came into our house, hungary for
an upset to place themselves in a position to challenge for first place in Section II. The Bucks
came out sluggish and were out-hustled in the first game. The varsity picked up the pace in the
second game to even up the match. The last two games seemed like they would never end. In the 3rd
CV had game point at 24-23, but let LMHS tie the game. It was not until the 5th time at game point
that CV was able put the game away. In the final game, CV once again had the game at 24-23 before
LMHS tied the game. CV then went to Match point, but LMHS came back with two game point. CV fought
back to gain Match point twice, again LMHS came back with a game point before CV closed out the match
with the highest scoring game of the year.

Even though this was only a four game match, many players had season highs in stats. Ryan Sweitzer had
4 assists; Blake Youndt tallied 7 kills; Robert Miller 15 kills, all season highs.

JV fought back after dropping the 1st game of their match but dropped the third "1/2" game in the match.

The Boys JR Varsity participated in thier first tournament of the season
at Cedar Crest HS. Due to uneven pools, CV's pool played 3 games per match. CV took a
a couple of games to get going FLYERS SCOOOOOOORE IN SUDDEN DEATH!!!!!!!!!!! losing the
first two games before taking one from New Oxford. CV dropped the next 3 games to host
Cedar Crest but followed with a sweep of Cocalico. This placed the Bucks in the quarter-
finals against LMHS. CV played a great match but lost two games by 3 points due to cap.

Congratulations to the 2004 CV All-Stars.

Ryan Sweitzer was named Section II, MVP along with being named to the 1st Team.
Joining Ryan on the first team are Blake Youndt and Tyler Miller.

Being named to the 2nd Team were Ben Fuller and Robert (Bo) Miller.
